About our family

I was born and raised in Afghanistan in a devout Muslim family. Like most children in my country, I grew up unaware of other religions—especially Christianity. That changed when I was just ten years old. My father, the first person in our family to hear the Gospel, came to faith in Jesus Christ after watching a Christian TV program. His decision to follow Christ came as a shock to our family. Motivated by concern and fear, my mother encouraged me to attend Quran classes at our local mosque to counteract what we saw as my father’s dangerous new path. The Quran classes were strict and conducted entirely in Arabic. We were expected to memorize and recite verses each week, and mistakes often led to physical punishment. At the time, I believed my father was wrong and needed to repent and return to Islam. But what I couldn’t ignore was the undeniable transformation in his character. The angry and bitter man I had known began to change—he became a kind father, a loving husband, and a man filled with peace. When asked about the change, he would say, “Jesus Christ has transformed me.” Curious and confused, I decided to read the Bible my father kept. To my surprise, it was in Dari/Farsi—my own language—and not in Arabic like the Quran. In less than a month, I read through the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, which seemed like simple stories. But when I reached the Gospel of John, something shifted. I encountered a love I had never experienced before—God’s love for sinners like me. The message of Jesus’ sacrifice pierced my heart. At the age of twelve, I surrendered my life to Christ and became a follower of Jesus in 2009. From the beginning of my walk with Christ, I sensed a hunger for deeper understanding. I knew the Bible was rich and profound, far beyond what I could grasp on my own. In a country like Afghanistan, where access to biblical teaching is nearly impossible, my spiritual mentor Luke helped open the door for me to grow. He connected me with a church internship in the United Arab Emirates, where I spent nine months learning, serving, and overcoming language barriers. As my English improved, I devoured Christian books and gained essential theological insights. After returning to Afghanistan in 2017, I joined a house church and began looking for a way to continue my studies. By God’s grace, I received a scholarship to pursue a bachelor’s degree through Pars Theological Center in the U.K., becoming their first Afghan student. I completed this life-changing program in December 2023. Throughout my studies, my passion to serve and teach fellow Afghan believers only deepened. In 2016, during my internship in the UAE, I met my now-wife, Maryssa. We got engaged and, after overcoming visa challenges, married in Aiken, South Carolina, in December 2020. We now live in Oklahoma City with our son, Meir, whom we welcomed in early 2024. Maryssa works at a school that has children from many nations, including Afghanistan, and together we serve a growing Afghan community of over 2,000 people in Oklahoma City and 800 in Tulsa. The fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban in 2021 marked another turning point in my ministry. The crisis spurred me to step into leadership roles I had never anticipated—helping evacuate believers, matching sponsors with refugees, and raising support for families in urgent need. I began training churches and individuals in the U.S. on how to welcome and minister to Afghan refugees, and I launched an online discipleship ministry that now reaches over 60,000 Afghans through social media. A small team and I continue to proclaim the Gospel, answer questions, distribute Dari/Farsi Bibles, and disciple Afghan believers all over the world. God has given me a deep burden to see a global Afghan church rise—strong, connected, and rooted in Scripture. My vision is to equip believers, plant house churches, and support them with biblical training and discipleship. I hope to travel to meet Afghan believers wherever they have resettled and provide in-person teaching, encouragement, and connection. In pursuit of this calling, I am now continuing my theological journey at Denver Seminary, pursuing a master’s degree in biblical and theological studies. The flexible online format allows me to study while remaining active in full-time ministry among Afghan believers in Oklahoma and beyond. I am grateful to the Lord for opening so many doors—from my early days reading the Gospel of John as a young boy, to now teaching and discipling my fellow Afghans around the world. I am also deeply thankful for the prayer and your support for this ministry as your support and prayer which is not just an investment in me, but in the future of the Afghan Church. Please join me in prayer for the spread of the Gospel among Afghans worldwide. The task is great, but our God is greater still.
